ποΈ Best Neighborhoods
Where to stay in Mumbai
Bandra West
Trendy seaside suburb with cafΓ©s, bars, boutiques and a strong expat and creative presence. Mix of old bungalows and mid-rise apartments, with promenades like Bandstand and Carter Road for evening walks.
Andheri West & Versova
Large residential and entertainment area popular with actors, film workers and young professionals. Lots of cafΓ©s, gyms and coworking options, with easier access to both the metro and the airport than South Mumbai.
Lower Parel & Worli
Former mill district turned cluster of glass towers, malls and upscale bars. Many offices and coworking spaces, with rooftop venues and sea views nearby. More corporate vibe but highly convenient for those who work nearby.
Powai
Planned lakeside suburb with large residential complexes, business parks and a more suburban, green feel. Popular with tech professionals and families, with modern cafΓ©s and coworking spaces and easier traffic than core Mumbai.
ποΈ Top Attractions
Best things to do in Mumbai
Marine Drive & Queen's Necklace
Curved seaside boulevard in South Mumbai lined with Art Deco buildings and a long promenade. At night, the streetlights form the 'Queen's Necklace' when viewed from above. Ideal for sunset runs, chats and people-watching.

Triumphal arch facing the harbour, built during the British Raj, and the surrounding Colaba area with the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, ferry jetties, cafΓ©s and boutiques. Classic first-stop area for visitors.
Elephanta Caves
UNESCO-listed rock-cut cave temples dedicated to Shiva on Elephanta Island, reached by a ferry from the Gateway of India. Features impressive sculptures and reliefs in a wooded setting.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus & Fort Area
Ornate Gothic Revival railway station and busy transport hub surrounded by colonial-era buildings in the Fort business district. Great for architecture walks and street photography.
Sanjay Gandhi National Park & Kanheri Caves
Large protected forest in northern Mumbai with hiking trails, cycling and ancient Buddhist cave complexes carved into the hillside. A rare escape into greenery without leaving the city limits.
Bandra Fort & Bandstand Promenade
Small sea-facing fort ruin and rocky shoreline promenade in Bandra with views of the BandraβWorli Sea Link. Popular spot for sunset, street snacks and Bollywood-location spotting.
Chor Bazaar & Mohammed Ali Road
Dense market district known for antiques, metalwork, car parts and everything in between, plus nearby streets with famous Mughlai food and Ramadan night markets. Intense but rewarding for adventurous eaters and shoppers.
Juhu Beach
Broad sandy beach in the western suburbs, lined with food stalls and evening crowds. More for strolling and snacks than swimming, but an essential Mumbai people-watching spot.

π¬ What Nomads Say
Real reviews from digital nomads
"Mumbai was my first deep experience of India and it was intense but rewarding. I stayed in Bandra West for six weeks, working partly from home and partly from a coworking space in BKC. Internet was surprisingly solid at 80β100 Mbps most of the time, and my total monthly spend was around $1,400 including a nice studio, Ubers and eating out several times a week. The hardest parts were the noise, traffic and the monsoon showers, but the food and energy more than made up for it."
"As someone who grew up in a smaller Indian city, living and working remotely in Mumbai was a mixed bag. On the plus side, there are endless opportunities, events and people to meet, and coworking spaces in Andheri and Powai are excellent. On the minus side, commuting can eat a lot of time, pollution bothers me in winter and it's hard to find real quiet without paying a premium. It's a great place to be for a while, but I wouldn't call it a chill nomad base."
"I used Mumbai as a filming and writing base for a month while covering India. The city is visually overwhelming in the best way β trains, markets, colonial architecture, street food, everything. I found it easier to work productively from Powai and then schedule specific shoot days in South Mumbai, rather than living in the middle of the chaos. Definitely not for everyone, but if you thrive on big-city intensity it's an exciting, cheap base."
