💬 What Nomads Say
Real reviews from digital nomads
"Ao Nang exceeded all my expectations as a digital nomad base! I spent three months here and fell in love with the lifestyle. My studio apartment near Noppharat Thara cost just $350/month with good WiFi included. The cafes are perfect for work - Lekker Cafe became my go-to spot with reliable 30 Mbps. Every weekend I'd take a longtail boat to Railay or do island hopping tours for incredibly cheap prices. The food scene is amazing - fresh seafood restaurants, night market street food, and healthy breakfast cafes. Locals are incredibly friendly and English is spoken everywhere. Yes, the main beach area can be touristy, but venture slightly inland and you'll find authentic Thailand. The only minor issue is that WiFi can be spotty during storms, but it's manageable with a backup SIM card."
"Solid destination for nomads who prioritize lifestyle over workspace options. I stayed six weeks in Ao Nang and my main challenge was finding reliable coworking - there are limited dedicated spaces compared to Chiang Mai or Bali. However, I made do with cafe hopping and my apartment WiFi which ranged from 20-35 Mbps depending on location. Cost of living is very reasonable at around $1,100/month including a nice Airbnb, daily meals out, and weekend activities. The nature here is absolutely stunning - Tiger Cave Temple climb was epic, and the island tours are world-class. Nightlife is decent with beach bars and clubs on the main strip. For developers who need rock-solid internet for video calls, I'd recommend having a 4G backup. The DTV visa makes long-term stays easy now."
"Ao Nang is beautiful but has limitations for serious remote work. I came for a month and had mixed feelings. The good: stunning beaches, friendly people, delicious affordable food ($800/month budget was plenty), and amazing weekend activities. The challenging: internet inconsistency was frustrating for client video calls, the main beach strip is very touristy and loud, and the coworking options are basically cafes with varying reliability. The rainy season (I visited in September) brought daily afternoon storms that sometimes knocked out power. Also, the heat and humidity can be exhausting if you're not used to tropical climates. I'd recommend Ao Nang for nomads who work asynchronously or have flexible schedules, or as a vacation destination. For deadline-driven work requiring constant connectivity, consider having robust backup plans."
