Where to stay in Cebu
IT Park (Lahug)
Cebu's modern tech and business district, and the undisputed hub for digital nomads. This master-planned area features high-rise condos, international restaurants, coworking spaces, and 24/7 dining options. Extremely safe with security patrols and CCTV coverage. Walking distance to everything you need: cafΓ©s, gyms, grocery stores, and nightlife. Home to BPO offices and startups creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Fastest internet in Cebu available here.
Cebu Business Park
The city's premier financial and lifestyle district centered around Ayala Center Cebu. Wide tree-lined streets, luxury condos, and a polished cosmopolitan atmosphere. Home to multinational offices, embassies, banks, and upscale shopping. Noticeably calmer and more refined than IT Park. Ayala Center offers international brands, gourmet supermarkets, cinemas, and medical clinics. Higher rent but exceptional quality of life.
Banilad
Quiet residential area popular with families and long-term expats. Features gated communities like Maria Luisa Estate Park with 24/7 security. Close to international schools, Gaisano Country Mall, and Banilad Town Centre for expat dining. More spacious housing options including townhouses and standalone homes. Less nightlife but excellent for those seeking suburban tranquility while remaining connected to the city. Growing cafΓ© scene.
Mactan Island
Island connected to Cebu City by bridges, home to the international airport and beach resorts. Offers the unique combination of urban convenience with beach access. Lapu-Lapu City side features growing developments including Mactan Newtown. Resort areas provide swimming pools and ocean views. Ideal for those prioritizing beach lifestyle over city center access. Growing digital nomad scene with beachfront coworking emerging.
ποΈ Top Attractions
Best things to do in Cebu
Oslob Whale Shark Watching
Swim and snorkel with the gentle giants of the sea - whale sharks (butanding). One of the most famous attractions in Cebu, located about 3 hours south of the city. These magnificent creatures can grow up to 12 meters long but are completely harmless. Early morning visits offer the best experience with calmer waters and smaller crowds. Controversial due to feeding practices, but remains a bucket-list experience for many visitors.
Kawasan Falls & Canyoneering
Famous three-tier waterfall with stunning turquoise blue waters, nicknamed the "Gatorade Factory" for its unreal color. Located in Badian, about 3 hours from Cebu City. The canyoneering adventure involves trekking, cliff jumping (up to 30 feet), rappelling, and swimming through canyons ending at the falls. One of the most Instagram-famous spots in the Philippines. Can be combined with Oslob whale sharks for an epic day trip.
Moalboal Sardine Run
Snorkel or dive with millions of sardines forming mesmerizing tornado-like formations just meters from Panagsama Beach. One of the few places in the world where you can experience this phenomenon year-round. Sea turtles are commonly spotted in the same area. The sardine school moved here after an earthquake in 1984 and never left. Combine with Pescador Island for an incredible diving day. Budget-friendly compared to other world-class dive sites.
Basilica del Santo NiΓ±o
The oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines, founded in 1565. Houses the famous Santo NiΓ±o de Cebu statue, believed to be the oldest Christian relic in the country. The church survived multiple fires and earthquakes, rebuilt each time. A major pilgrimage site especially during the Sinulog Festival in January when millions gather. Beautiful Spanish colonial architecture with a peaceful courtyard garden. Free entry.
Magellan's Cross
Historic wooden cross planted by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, marking the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. Housed in a small chapel with beautiful ceiling murals depicting the first baptism. The original cross is said to be encased inside the visible replica to protect it from devotees who chipped pieces for good luck. Located next to Basilica del Santo NiΓ±o. Important symbol of Cebu's history.
Fort San Pedro
The oldest and smallest triangular bastion fort in the Philippines, built by Spanish conquistador Miguel LΓ³pez de Legazpi in 1565. Served as military defense, prison camp during WWII, and now a peaceful garden museum. Features original cannons, a small museum with artifacts, and well-maintained grounds perfect for an afternoon stroll. Located near the port area in downtown Cebu. Excellent for history buffs and photographers.
Temple of Leah
Dubbed the "Taj Mahal of Cebu," this grand Roman-inspired temple was built by a businessman as a testament of love for his late wife Leah. Features impressive columns, statues, bronze sculptures, and panoramic views of Cebu City from the Busay highlands. Still under construction but already a popular Instagram destination. The hilltop location offers cool breezes and sunset views. Combine with Tops Lookout nearby.
Tops Lookout
Popular viewpoint in the Busay highlands offering 180-degree panoramic views of Cebu City, Mactan Island, and surrounding seas. Located about 30 minutes from the city center up winding mountain roads. Perfect for watching both sunrise and sunset. Features a small cafΓ©, picnic areas, and photo spots. Cooler temperatures provide welcome relief from the city heat. Often combined with Temple of Leah for a highland day trip.

π¬ What Nomads Say
Real reviews from digital nomads
"Cebu has been my home base for 18 months and I absolutely love it. The cost of living is unbeatable - my nice condo in IT Park costs $400/month, I eat out daily for under $15, and my coworking membership is $100. Everyone speaks English which makes daily life so easy. The Company Cebu coworking space has an amazing community with regular events. On weekends I island hop to Bohol, dive in Moalboal, or chase waterfalls. The internet in IT Park is solid 100+ Mbps. Yes, traffic is terrible and it's hot, but the trade-offs are worth it for this lifestyle at this price."
"Spent 4 months in Cebu working remotely. The affordability is real - lived well on $800/month. IT Park is genuinely nice and safe, felt comfortable walking around at night. English proficiency is a huge plus compared to other SE Asian countries. The weekend adventures are incredible: whale sharks in Oslob, canyoneering at Kawasan, diving with sardines in Moalboal. However, internet outside IT Park is hit-or-miss. Traffic made me avoid leaving my area during rush hour. The heat and humidity took adjustment. Not as polished as Chiang Mai for nomads, but much cheaper with better English."
"Cebu is cheap but you get what you pay for. Internet was my biggest frustration - constant dropouts during video calls outside of premium coworking spaces. The city itself isn't pretty - sprawling, congested, and polluted. Infrastructure feels decades behind Bangkok or KL. Had to be careful with belongings downtown. Air quality bothered me. The heat is relentless. That said, the Filipino hospitality is genuine, English makes everything easier, and weekend escapes to islands are amazing. Good for a month or two as a base for exploring the Philippines, but wouldn't choose it for long-term over more developed nomad hubs."
