Things to Do in Cebu

Swim and snorkel with the gentle giants of the sea - whale sharks (butanding). One of the most famous attractions in Cebu, located about 3 hours south of the city. These magnificent creatures can grow up to 12 meters long but are completely harmless. Early morning visits offer the best experience with calmer waters and smaller crowds. Controversial due to feeding practices, but remains a bucket-list experience for many visitors.

Famous three-tier waterfall with stunning turquoise blue waters, nicknamed the "Gatorade Factory" for its unreal color. Located in Badian, about 3 hours from Cebu City. The canyoneering adventure involves trekking, cliff jumping (up to 30 feet), rappelling, and swimming through canyons ending at the falls. One of the most Instagram-famous spots in the Philippines. Can be combined with Oslob whale sharks for an epic day trip.

Snorkel or dive with millions of sardines forming mesmerizing tornado-like formations just meters from Panagsama Beach. One of the few places in the world where you can experience this phenomenon year-round. Sea turtles are commonly spotted in the same area. The sardine school moved here after an earthquake in 1984 and never left. Combine with Pescador Island for an incredible diving day. Budget-friendly compared to other world-class dive sites.

The oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines, founded in 1565. Houses the famous Santo Niño de Cebu statue, believed to be the oldest Christian relic in the country. The church survived multiple fires and earthquakes, rebuilt each time. A major pilgrimage site especially during the Sinulog Festival in January when millions gather. Beautiful Spanish colonial architecture with a peaceful courtyard garden. Free entry.

Historic wooden cross planted by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, marking the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. Housed in a small chapel with beautiful ceiling murals depicting the first baptism. The original cross is said to be encased inside the visible replica to protect it from devotees who chipped pieces for good luck. Located next to Basilica del Santo Niño. Important symbol of Cebu's history.

The oldest and smallest triangular bastion fort in the Philippines, built by Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi in 1565. Served as military defense, prison camp during WWII, and now a peaceful garden museum. Features original cannons, a small museum with artifacts, and well-maintained grounds perfect for an afternoon stroll. Located near the port area in downtown Cebu. Excellent for history buffs and photographers.

Dubbed the "Taj Mahal of Cebu," this grand Roman-inspired temple was built by a businessman as a testament of love for his late wife Leah. Features impressive columns, statues, bronze sculptures, and panoramic views of Cebu City from the Busay highlands. Still under construction but already a popular Instagram destination. The hilltop location offers cool breezes and sunset views. Combine with Tops Lookout nearby.

Popular viewpoint in the Busay highlands offering 180-degree panoramic views of Cebu City, Mactan Island, and surrounding seas. Located about 30 minutes from the city center up winding mountain roads. Perfect for watching both sunrise and sunset. Features a small café, picnic areas, and photo spots. Cooler temperatures provide welcome relief from the city heat. Often combined with Temple of Leah for a highland day trip.
