The spacious caverns feature dramatic rock formations and provide incredible photo opportunities with light streaming through openings. Local guides can show you the safest paths to reach them. A magical spot for exploration and photography, especially during golden hour. Check tide schedules before visiting and wear appropriate footwear for the rocky terrain.
MisiΓ³n Tortugas Hatchery
Community-run sea turtle conservation program located on the west beach near the skatepark. Volunteers collect eggs from nesting mothers to protect them from predators and poachers. During hatching season (September-November), visitors can participate in releasing baby turtles into the ocean around sunset - a truly magical experience. Contact Palo Verde hotel or check locally for release schedules. The program is funded partly through Bitcoin Beach community initiatives.
Skatepark El Zonte
Colorful community skatepark decorated with vibrant graffiti art, located on the west side of town just behind the beach. Watch local kids showcase their skills or bring your own board for a session. π¬ What Nomads Say
Real reviews from digital nomads
"El Zonte exceeded all my expectations. I came for two weeks and stayed two months. The cost of living is incredibly low - I'm paying $450/month for a nice room with AC and fiber internet at a surf hostel. Pupusas cost less than a dollar! The surf is consistent and uncrowded compared to other spots I've been. The Bitcoin Beach project is fascinating to experience firsthand - I pay for most things with Lightning. The community is tight-knit and welcoming. Yes, the town is small and nightlife is limited, but that's exactly what I needed to be productive. I surf in the morning, work during the day, and watch incredible sunsets every evening. El Salvador's safety improvement is real - I feel completely safe walking around at any hour."
"El Zonte is perfect if you know what you're signing up for - a quiet, slow-paced surf village. The positives: absolutely stunning beach, amazing people, delicious cheap food, and you can actually disconnect here. The yoga and surf scene is great, and Puro Surf has surprisingly fast internet. However, there are real limitations. WiFi outside the main hotels can be spotty. There's basically no nightlife if that's your thing. The rainy season (May-Oct) brings afternoon downpours daily. You'll definitely want a scooter to explore other beaches and waterfalls. English is limited but locals are patient and helpful. I'd recommend this for focused work retreats or surf trips, not if you want variety and stimulation. Four stars because it's not for everyone, but perfect for its niche."
"I had mixed feelings about El Zonte. The beach is beautiful and the people are genuinely warm and friendly. Safety is much better than El Salvador's reputation suggests - no issues whatsoever. Costs are rock-bottom: $10-15 for a good dinner with drinks, $400-500/month for decent accommodation. However, as a digital nomad, I found significant challenges. Internet is the main issue - my video calls dropped constantly at multiple locations. Coworking options are essentially just hotels with WiFi, nothing purpose-built. The town is tiny with maybe 5 restaurants total. I got restless after three weeks. If you're a surfer or crypto enthusiast, add a star. If you need reliable video calls or get bored easily, subtract one. El Tunco nearby is more developed but loses the authentic charm. Recommend for a week or two, longer only if you're very self-sufficient."
