βAdvantages
- βLower cost of living than major Western cities while still offering good infrastructure
- βAccess to spectacular beaches, limestone cliffs and islands within short boat rides
- βWarm tropical climate with excellent winter weather and plenty of sunshine
- βFast national internet backbone with decent fibre and strong 4G/5G coverage in town
- βGrowing number of coworking/cowork-friendly cafΓ©s in Ao Nang and Krabi Town
- βMany accommodation options from budget bungalows to modern apartments and villas
- βVibrant but generally relaxed nightlife focused on bars, live music and beach clubs
- βEasy onward travel to Phuket, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi and the rest of Thailand
- βThai food culture with abundant cheap street food and fresh seafood
- βVisa-exempt entry for many nationalities with onshore extension options
βDisadvantages
- βSpread-out geography means you often need a scooter, tuk-tuk or taxi rather than walking everywhere
- βRainy season from May to October can bring frequent showers and occasional storms
- βArea is highly tourist-oriented, so some parts feel crowded and prices rise in high season
- βLimited big-city cultural offerings compared with Bangkok or Chiang Mai
- βCoffee shops suitable for all-day laptop work are fewer than in major nomad hubs
- βTap water is not considered safe to drink and you will rely on bottled or filtered water
- βRoad safety can be an issue, especially for inexperienced scooter riders
- βBurnout from constant tourism turnover β it can be harder to build a long-term community
- βNot ideal for serious surfing; the Andaman Sea here is better for swimming, kayaking and island trips
- βHealthcare is good for routine issues but complex cases may require travel to larger cities

π¬ What Nomads Say
Real reviews from digital nomads
"I based myself in Ao Nang for six weeks and absolutely loved Krabi as a working beach break. I rented a scooter, worked from a mix of my apartment and Krabi Coworking Coliving, then did island trips on weekends. My total spend was around $1,300/month including a nice one-bedroom, coworking pass and eating out most days. Internet was fast enough for all my calls and I never felt unsafe."
"Krabi is great if you want nature and a slower pace. I spent two months in Krabi Town and used cafΓ©s like Zoo Cafe plus a few days each week in Ao Nang. Costs were lower than Phuket and I liked having local markets nearby. The downsides are rainy season showers and the need to scooter everywhere, which isnβt for everyone."
"I enjoyed Krabi's beaches but as a digital nomad I sometimes felt limited. There arenβt as many all-day laptop cafΓ©s as in Chiang Mai or Bangkok, and during peak season Ao Nang gets very touristy. For me it worked best as a 4β6 week base rather than a long-term hub, but for that time it was fantastic for balancing work with island hopping."
