The wide expanse means there's usually space even during busy summer months, while the sheltered position keeps waters calmer than other Atlantic beaches. 💬 What Nomads Say

Real reviews from digital nomads

Sarah M.
Remote Marketing Manager • 48 months
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I moved to Portimão four years ago and it was the best decision ever. The digital nomad community here is incredible - there are WhatsApp groups for everything from padel to salsa dancing, and regular meetups make it easy to build a social life quickly. The internet is fast (I consistently get 100Mbps), the cost of living is reasonable at around €1,600/month including a nice apartment in Praia da Rocha, and the weather is amazing with 300 days of sunshine. Unlike other Algarve towns that become ghost towns in winter, Portimão stays alive year-round. The beaches are stunning and I can walk to work at a café overlooking the ocean. Perfect for remote work!"

⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Portimão offers great value for Western Europe. I pay €900 for a decent one-bedroom near the center, internet is reliable at around 80Mbps, and the food scene is excellent - fresh grilled sardines on the riverfront are a must-try. The digital nomad community is welcoming with active Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Downsides: the architecture isn't pretty (lots of 1980s concrete), you'll want a car to explore the region properly, and summer crowds in Praia da Rocha can be intense. The city itself is practical rather than charming, but the beaches and lifestyle more than compensate. Good balance of amenities and beach life."

⭐⭐⭐

"Portimão is functional but not the most inspiring place visually. After three months here, I appreciate the year-round sunshine and strong nomad community, but the town itself feels like a tourist resort rather than an authentic Portuguese experience. The main beach area (Praia da Rocha) can be loud at night during summer. Coworking options are limited compared to Lisbon - I mostly work from cafés. Internet is generally good but can vary by building. The cost of living is creeping up as more expats discover it. For me, it's better as a base for a few months than long-term living. Nearby Lagos and Ferragudo have more character."
