Advantages

  • Consistently ranked among the world's most liveable cities with strong healthcare, infrastructure and stability
  • Easy access to world-class nature: mountains, ocean, forests and ski resorts within a short drive or transit ride
  • Fast and reliable fibre internet widely available in the city, suitable for heavy remote work
  • Walkable central neighbourhoods like Downtown, Yaletown and the West End with good transit via SkyTrain and buses
  • Thriving coffee culture and plenty of laptop-friendly cafés across Mount Pleasant, Gastown and Kitsilano
  • Very LGBTQ+ friendly city with established queer neighbourhoods and events
  • Mild climate by Canadian standards with pleasant summers and relatively rare extreme cold

Disadvantages

  • High cost of living with some of the most expensive rents in Canada and rising grocery and restaurant prices
  • Long, dark and rainy winters that can affect mood and outdoor plans
  • Housing market is tight and competitive; good apartments get taken quickly
  • Downtown can feel corporate and busy, with traffic congestion at peak times
  • Rain and grey skies make the city feel less vibrant in late autumn and winter
  • Not ideal for those seeking hot-weather beach life or cheap long-term stays

💬 What Nomads Say

Real reviews from digital nomads

Marta S.
Remote Product Manager • 3 months
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Vancouver is my favourite base in North America so far. I spent three months in a furnished studio in Mount Pleasant, working partly from a WeWork downtown and partly from cafés. The combo of fast internet, safe streets and the ability to go from my laptop to a forest trail in under 30 minutes is unbeatable. The downside is cost – my monthly budget here was higher than in London – but for a summer base it was worth every dollar."

Daniel K.
Software Engineer • 4 months
⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I used Vancouver as a base for four months while working fully remote on West Coast hours. The city is incredibly liveable: great transit, tons of good coffee and food, and neighbours who are used to remote workers. Winters are definitely grey and wet, and rent is brutal, but if you can negotiate a good salary it is one of the most comfortable places I have lived as a nomad."

Aya N.
Freelance Illustrator • 2 months
⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I split my time between Vancouver and cheaper cities. When I am here I live very locally in Commercial Drive, work from small cafés and do a lot of walking and biking. The queer community is strong and I always feel safe getting home at night. It is not a budget destination, but the combo of nature and culture makes it special for a few months at a time."
