💬 What Nomads Say
Real reviews from digital nomads
"Surat Thani was a wonderful surprise! I came expecting just a transit stop before heading to the islands, but ended up staying for 3 weeks. The cost of living is incredibly low - my comfortable studio apartment cost just 4,500 THB/month, and I was eating amazing street food for 40-50 THB per meal. The Renovate Espresso Bar became my office, serving excellent specialty coffee in a laptop-friendly environment. The authentic Thai experience here is unmatched - no tourist markups, genuinely friendly locals, and delicious food everywhere. Khao Sok National Park is absolutely stunning and easily accessible. Perfect for budget-conscious nomads who want to experience real Thailand."
"Surat Thani offers great value but comes with trade-offs. The affordability is outstanding - I spent around $600/month total including a nice condo near Central Plaza. The coffee shop scene surprised me with several quality spots perfect for working. The night market food is phenomenal and dirt cheap. However, the digital nomad community is essentially non-existent, so expect solitude. English is limited outside cafes, and the city isn't particularly walkable - you'll want a scooter. The weather is hot and humid year-round, and the monsoon season (May-Nov) brings heavy rains. That said, it's a fantastic base for island hopping and exploring Khao Sok."
"Stayed in Surat Thani for 2 weeks while exploring Southern Thailand. The pros: incredibly cheap, authentic Thai food, good coffee shops, and easy access to islands and Khao Sok. The cons: internet in accommodations was inconsistent (cafes were better), no real coworking spaces, limited nightlife, and it's clearly a transit city rather than a destination. The heat was oppressive during my April visit (35°C+). If you're a budget nomad who doesn't need community and wants authentic Thailand, it works. But if you need reliable fast internet, coworking spaces, or social scene, stick to Chiang Mai or Bangkok. Good for short stays or as a base for exploration."
